Magnetism

Which Magnetic Poles Repel?

Two like poles will repel each other.
These may be two North poles or two South poles,
they will both have the same magnetic field shape.

The shape of a Magnetic Field between Repelling Poles

The region in the centre of the poles shown by the red star
has no magnetic field,
as the two opposing fields cancel each other out.

See also the magnetic field shape
for a bar magnet and poles which attract.
