Environmental Issues.
2) Fossil fuels are burnt on a huge scale.
The main products of combustion are carbon dioxide and water.
It is thought that about
850 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide
have been added to the atmosphere by the burning of fossil
fuels
since the industrial revolution
We are currently adding over
60 million tonnes of carbon dioxide
EVERY DAY to the atmosphere.
Carbon
dioxide is not poisonous,
and is naturally present in the
atmosphere (see Carbon Cycle)
BUT
Millions of tonnes of carbon
dioxide going constantly into
the atmosphere
is causing global
warming, resulting in climate change all over the planet.
